A Program Teaches Students What to Believe in the Digital World
This article talks about a program that has students look at the importance of looking for reliable information on the internet. It give them four questions to answer:
Why does news matter?
Why is the First Amendment protection of free speech so vital to American democracy?
How can students know what to believe?
What challenges and opportunities do the Internet and digital media create?
They develop interactive games to answer theses questions. I thought the article emphasized the need to evaluate information on the Web. In the digital age students have so much information available to them, they have difficulty finding really good information.
This does talk about "digital immigrants' and "digital natives" and made me even more aware of my status as a digital immigrant. Although I afraid to bring the new technologies into the classroom, I am not as comfortable as most of my students are with using new technologies. Many schools still face problems because they limit or block what students can do online. We need to embrace the new digital age and move forward because the students are going to expect it.

Like Newspapers around the country, high newspapers are decreasing. This article focuses on how journalism is important for students and an alternative to the printing costs would be to use online papers or blogs. This was of interest to me because my high school we are talking about turning the current small paper into a blog. This way we can have more stories and more interaction from the student body. Our one reservation control over the comments, being a high school we have to have some control without taking students right to comment.
